Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Recently i moved to a new apartment, however my roomate at my old place moved with me and he also brought with him an unpaid bill for 775.00 to florida power and electric from aug 2012. On jan 2013 I recieved a bill from fpl for his past balance along with my regular bill for my new account. I opened a new account in my name, we are not related, married etc. however they said from drivers license records since i lived at the old addrress his debt from a different account was now my debt. However my friend told me they sent his fpl bill of 775.oo to two collections agencies and reported it on his credit. Since they did this to his credit and sent it to collections is it legal for them to come after me for the debt still? also, how is it legal for them to put the balance of another persons account onto mine with no notice? Now they are threatning to shut off my electricity as i cant pay 834.00. Please help!!!!

Check your credit report to make sure it is not on there and if so contact me. See www.consumerlawyerhelp.com and if collection agency contacts you.
