Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Responsibility for Parents

My mother is currently in a nursing home. She is on a limited income. They claim she owes them over $1500.00. The business office has started sending ME the bill, claiming ''further action will be taken'' if the bill is not paid in a certain amount of time. I have never signed any contract with the nursing home, in fact, I have never signed anything. Am I responsible for my parent's debt? What would be the best way to tell the business office to cease and desist from sending ME the bill? I do not want to have to fight a collection agency, but I don't think I would have to go that far. And if they did go that far - do they have liability for ruining MY credit? By the way, I do intend to pay the bill (I will do the right thing) once there is money to do that. Thank You
