Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Am I responsible for girlfriends med bills
I have been living with my girlfriend for 10 years and have 3 children together. She has a daughter from a previous marage and the divorce decree states that her ex-husband is to pay all medical costs.
There are some disputed medical bills (Blue cross did not pay) for her and her daughter that several collection agencies are going after me to pay. My girlfriend and her daughter were on my companies blue cross medical insurance during the time the bills were incurred.
Question1: Am I legally liable for those medical bills? Does the fact that they were on my insurance and blue cross paid some other bills at the time obligate me legally?
Question2: If I am liable for those old bills now that I do not have medical insurance continue to obligate me now and Into perpetuity? How will the hospital and doctors know when and if we split up. Will I be responsible for her bills forever? We are not married so we could not get divorced and I can not prove we are no longer together.
