Am I responsible for my wife�s debt?

My wife had some dental work done and my insurance paid a portion of the charges and the rest of the charges I am assuming are her responsibility. Well my wife never paid the bill so can a collection agency legally report this negative amount on my credit report?

Generally, medical and dental expenses are a necessary and a husband is responsible for his wifes expenses.
