what happens if I'm served a subpoena for a pre-trial conference/mediation from a collection agency for an unpaid credit card balance and do not show up?

A writ may be issued to pick you up and bring to court. You could be sanctioned under contempt.

Big mistake. Court will grant judgement against you. Many of these cases can be won with a consumer lawyer. Many of us will review at not charge and seek fees from collection company if we feel we can win.
