Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Small claims payment
Can I pay a debt once the creditor has institiuted a suit in Small Claims Court? If so, should the payment be made directly to the creditor? Is the creditor obligated to receive payment in full satisfaction of the debt?

Re: Small claims payment
Of course you can pay the debt, HOWEVER, now that a suit has been brought, you are probably on the hook for attorneys fees and court costs, and possibly prejudgmnet interest. Contact the law firm directly - the creditor referred your account to the law firm to handle. Ask to speak with the attorney or his/her assistant.
Don't assume anything, and don't be afraid to talk to the attorney or the assistant. Since you don't know what those extra costs might be (and if the debt is a credit card or an auto repo, you owe those amounts by contract), don't assume you know what the amount is. Call the law firm.
