Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Can sold debt be sued for.

So in 2000 I had a vehical repoed by Dodge. I was unable to pay off the bad debt to them and they sent it to collections. After several different attempts by different collection agencies, it was writen off on my credit. Then sor some time I did not hear about it. Then in the last six months a new company has bought my debt and keeps calling me. Hear is the question. Can the company other than Dodge take me to court. I am a college student and do not have alot of money but would like them to quit calling. What can I do?

Re: Can sold debt be sued for.

The new company bought the debt - they own it, so that company can take you to court. You can pay the debt to get them to quit calling, or you can send them a letter and demand they "cease and desist" from calling you. If you send a cease and desist letter, you might force them to take you to court earlier than they otherwise might have. Just as in every other area of life, there are consequences to every action you take.
