Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I have an out standing student loan due from the stat since 1988 ,I am now on s.s.d. I have been threatened with witholding of a portion of my ck. which is 1192 per month. is this legal ? the job i held for the past 15 yrs. paid 11.74 per hour when they closed .Is there anything i can do to stop this?
