Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Student Loan Debt and Marriage
I am planning to get married, but I have over 100,000. in student loans. My finance is concerned that if we buy a house, and I am unable to make my student loan payments, that the governement can place a lien on the property, even if the property is soley in the name of my soon to be spouse because the property will be considered a marital asset. What is your advice? Should we not get married and just let him buy the house in his name to protect the home or is there somekind of document that we can sign to prevent this from happening if we marry.

Apply for the Homestead Exemption to protect your house.
