Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Suing someone who owes you money

I have lent someone money who lives in another state and he has promised to pay me back the money, but he has not. How can I go about suing him for not paying me back? I live in Florida and he lives in Nevada. What can I do?

Re: Suing someone who owes you money

YOu may have to tell us more about the loan. Based on what you've said, I can't tell if you have to sue in Florida or Nevada. As a general rule, you have to sue where the defendant lives and, when it comes to loaning money, you have to prove the money is a loan and not a gift. If you can't, you lose. Many states require that loans be in writing.
