Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Termination of one parties obligation to an auto lease
I recently (2 months) co-signed an auto lease with my boyfriend of 15 years. He is 87 years old. We are splitting up and he is taking the car. I am not concerned about him not making the payments but rather that he might pass away sometime during the next 4 years (the lease term). He is leaving the state and I fear that I will end up with a huge liability or have to try and find the car. Is there a way to "quit-claim" responsibility to this lease, to get my name off of the obligation??? Thank you for your help.

Simply put, no. But why not get life insurance on you boyfriend? There is insurance for this purpose and the cost is not that great.
