Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Being threatened to be arrested

I have been called by a man named Sam Bishop stating that he is an officer with the Financial Crime Protection Agency and that if I didn't pay off the debt I would go to jail.He proceeded to tell me that the authorities were on there way to pick me up and he could stop them if I paid them.He said that I took out a loan in 2006 which I don't remember taking out.He said the loan was for $300.00 and the total amount was $3,000.I got scared and paid him $500.00.I talked to a friend and I did some investigating and come to find out he has been harassing other people as well.Everytime he calls he uses a different name or he will call my house phone from a cell number with a different name.He called me more than five times today threatening to take me to jail. What can I do?

Re: Being threatened to be arrested

You need to tell this person that you will contact the authorities for harrasment. In Florida, one can not be arrested for owing monies to a creditor, valid or not. I would contact the Sherrif's office to make them aware of the person.
