Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Time frame for opposing attorney to agree to payment plan

May 2000, the judge found that I needed to repay an amount of $8,000.00 to an individual. I have heard nothing from the opposing attorney since then. There were no payment schedules or plans set. I have taken it upon myself to write to the opposing attorney on two separate occasions (December 2000 and February 2001)to try to set up a payment plan. I have still not gotten a reply from the attorney. How long do I legally have to wait for the opposing attorney to contact me as to the payments. I don't want him to go back to the judge & tell him I never paid. I have tried to get this resolved, but I can't get anywhere with this on my own and can't afford another attorney. Thank-you for any help you can give me.

Often attorneys will obtain judgements and then move to the next case. This does not mean that the debt is forgiven and it will come back and haunt you in the future. I would start sending the payments directly to the individual you owe the debt to. Make these payments in the form of checks and keep them and record of your payments so that you can have the debt satisfied legally when the last payment is made.
