Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Tow Company

I sold a car as I was moving from the area. The man never legally registered the car in his name. The car was towed as an abandoned vehicle. The tow company mailed the tow bill to me. I paid for a duplicate title and mailed it to tow co...told them to destroy car. They said if I didnot pay tow bill, they would put a $500.00 lien against my vehicle. I am a widow with a young child and need my vehicle. It is the only transportation I have. Can they legally put a lien against my vehicle?

Re: Tow Company

Yes, althought the amount seems high. When you go to register your car with the Department of Motor Vehicles the lien will show up and they will prevent you from registering until it is paid.
