I have unsecured credit card debt. Due to divorce, cancer, adopted baby who is now 14 (I am 66yo) and the economy of 2008. I have had calls from a Lawyer firm in Atlanta Ga. requesting me to call them and they also include a file #
I have zero assets , rent a room, drive a 10 yo VW Beetle and can only find seasonal employment in the service trade. Please understand this info is for an overview of my lifestyle and not a whoa is me statement.
If I contact them what pertinent questions should I ask. Ty in advance.

You are judgment proof. You have no assets to attach and as head of household there is nothing to be gained from them. I would suggest you find out if they have a judgment against you. If you were never served papers, then probably not. If you pay them anything, the time will begin to toll again.
Agree with the above. However, you are supposed to receive mail shortly after they contact you indicating who they are and what the debt is. Once you receive that, you should send a validation letter to them and a cease and desist letter, except for their validation. May websites have these letters. See www.ConsumerLawyerHelp.com. The purpose of these letters is to establish who owns the debt and to set them up for calling or contacting you against your wishes. You would have an independent action if they violate the cease and desist letter.
I would also suggest you keep a record of all contacts, time, date, and person spoken to.
