Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
wage garnishment
Is it possible for my wages to be garnished without my knowing it beforehand? I have not been sued, gone to court, or recievd any paperwork, but a credit reports says wage garnishment, I do not work though. Also, can social security survivors benefits be garnished? thank you.

Re: wage garnishment
Yes. Wages can be garnished prior to your knowledge but you should receive notification shortly after the Writ is entered. This is called a Writ of Garnishment.
Social Security wages are exempt from garnishment. Other earnings are also exempt if they fall under certain categories.
I would suggest that you consult a local attorney to review all of your legal options.
