Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

widow's liability for spouse's c. c. debt

I am the surviving widow of a 100% serviced connected veteran.

My deceased husband died while in debt to 2 credit cards that were in his name only. The combined debt is approximately $6,000.

I am surviving on social security and my husbands reduced VA pension. I am currently in a negative cash flow situation.

Two debt collectors are threatening me with litigation if I do not pay my husbands debt.

I was under the understanding that I was not liable for debt not incurred by my person upon my spouses death. In addition my husband died while in personal debt.

Thank you in advance for any information you could provide me in this very stressful time.
