Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
My wife cosigned a student loan with her ex-boyfriend years ago before we started dating, and he did not pay the loan. Now, after discovering his not paying, we are settling with collections for $6,050 of a $9,000 bill he accrued on a $2,000 loan originally that escilated with fees/intrest. We have attempted to negotiate with him, but he refuses to help in any way, stating we will pay it and he has no obligation since we'll pay it regardless of his help or not, leaving us to pay the $6,000 ourselves. There is no law against being an ass, but is there any legal way to get anything from him when we (my wife the cosigner) pay his bill to clear her credit?

Sue him for the debt. He owes it to your wife, if she pays it.
