Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I wote a check for $500 (payday loan) about 1 1/2 years ago. collection agencys called but they would not take payments they wanted the full amount along with there charges. Im on disability and don't have alot of money left over after paying bills. I live in florida and now a collection agency is threating me. I don't want to go to jail. I am bipolar and will loose my disability is it is a felony (i think) is there anything i can do???? please help

Threats are a violation of law. If you are on disability--social security-- and that is your only asset, see my discussion of garnishment at my consumer website. You may have a claim against the collectors for harassment.
