Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
2nd deg grand theft & improper conduct
I stole money from my job and wrote a letter confessing it. I stole checks and money but returned the checks. Will I be required to repay the checks even though they were returned and deposited. This is my first time ever getting in trouble do you think I will face jail time or what do you think might happen. If I get probation how long do you think it will be. The amount including the checks were about 41,000 dollars

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
If you stole checks but returned them before you cashed them, then you will not have to repay those monies to the company you stole them from as they have no right to profit from your wrongdoings. The cash you stole will have to be reapid as the condition of any sentence or probation. The period of your probation will depend on your prior criminal history and the court in which you appear. You appear to be in Broward County whose judiciary has the reputation of being extremely tough on crime.
