Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

19 year old burgulary

Hello and thankyou for taking the time for answering this. My 19 year old was arrested for burgulary. He didnt steal anything but he broke the lock and when the owner came home he punch him and fled. He is charged with a burgulary, assault and battery, and petty theft. He has a newly acquired drug problem. Will he most likely do the 85% of his time in prison? I want him to pay for his crime, is there anyway he can do time in the county instead of prison? If so what step should I take?. I am not bailing him out.

If this is his first offense, he may not even serve any time. Many first time drug offenders are sent to drug court and referred to a drug program. If they successfully complete the program, they charges against them are dismissed and they can later file to have the charges sealed or expunged.
