Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
My 17 year daugther was just charged with petty theft in Sarasota County. She had just completed 15 hours of community service for a traffic violation (music was too loud) in lieu of paying this fine. Is she elgible for the Misdemeanor intervention Program in Sarasota and if so, is this done through the Salvation Army?
1 Answer from Attorneys
She should be eligible for the intervention program so long as she has no criminal priors. It is still discretionary with the state, meaning that just because she is eligible, it doesn't mean she gets it. The Salvation Army runs the program but it is actually done through the state attorney's office. Before she does anything I would advise speaking to an attorney to see if there are any defenses or see if there may be better options for her.
