Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
I'm 23 years old, and between the ages of 12-16, I was sexually abused by a trusted member of our extended family. I stayed with him for several short periods of time (1-3 months) during that time, and he was my "guardian" for those times. I'm wondering what I should/could do at this point, as this happened as recently as 2003, but as long ago as the late 1990's. I've read up on the Florida(where the events took place) statutes regarding sexual assault, and learned that there's no actual statute of limitations on this crime when committed on a minor. Please help me to understand what can be done, and how to go about doing it. Also interested in learning about civil possibilities.
