Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
My 21 yr old son was arrested for driving w/o valid license and possession of a small amount of pot while already on probation for the same offense. He agreed at first appearance to a 2nd probation agreement because he wanted out of that jail. For fear of being re-arrested for VOP, he didn't honor his original probation agreement or the second one. He now has 3 arrest warrants and has been basically hiding for a year. How can we get an idea of what he can expect if he were to turn himself in. We also want to know if hiring an attorney to speak on his behalf might help to lessen the impact of these issues. His life is at a standstill until we can resolve these issues.
1 Answer from Attorneys
He is theoreticlly looking at several years in jail. I can't imagine why you'd have to ask if you need an attorney, because the answer is of course you do. If you can't afford an attorney a public defender will be appointed after he is arrested. The attorney will be able to lessen the impact and is something you must look into today because he could always be arrested at any moment.
