Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
My 16 yr old son was recently charged with several first degree misdemeanors regarding possession of under 5grams of marijuanna and also possession of things like pipes and a scale. This happened in Brevard County, Fl (Cape Canaveral) and we live in Hillsborough Cty (Tampa). He was in a car but not driving. The driver is being charged with DUI. The driver has secured an attorney located over in Brevard who has told them he could also represent my son. I am just looking for advice what to do. My son is guilty but I don't want to waste $1,000's of dollars and I assume he will have to go through a drug program but I want to be sure this would occur in Hillsborough where I live and not in Brevard Cty (3 hours away).
Thanks.

He should definitely get a separate attorney that practices in Brevard county. It is usually not a problem to do a drug program in the county where he lives. The judge will just order it. Meanwhile, I suggest you look for a good program in the Tampa area so you have that ready to go for the attorney in Brevard.
