Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Accused of hitting a student

I have been accused of hitting a student, was told other students witnessed it and wrote statements, but I didn't hit anyone. I do not have and cannot afford, a lawyer. What will happen? What should I do.

Re: Accused of hitting a student

It is hard to say what will happen. The police may investigate it, and may then turn it over to the State Attorneys Office. The State Attorneys Office may or may not prosecute the case depending on a variety of factors.

If you are arrested, you will be given a bond in order to be released from jail. You will be brought before a judge within 24 hours if you are not released. You may qualify for a public defender.

The most important thing you can do at this point is not talk to anyone without a lawyer - not the police, not your supervisors, nothing. It cannot help you, it can only hurt you.
