Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Administator of the estate

My father was murdered July 10 in Iowa and I reside in FL. I am trying to figure out what I need to do to become the admin. of the estate. My father doesn't own any property and the bank said that they would pick up the car but I am unable to collect the funds in my fathers accounts until I become the admin. I don't kow what that means, my father didn't have a will or life insurance. I don't kow what to do from here.

Re: Administator of the estate

Truly sorry for your loss. The first question is where was your father's residence at the time of his death? You need to contact the clerk of court in that county/state and should probably seek advice of local counsel. You may need to actually hire an attorney, but consulting with one in that jurisdiction will be beneficial.

Do you anticipate any lawsuits related to the murder? If so as administrator of the estate you will be acting as the representative in those suits. If there are any other heirs you should contact them as well.
