Before going into private practice I was a prosecutor here in Broward county and I can tell you from experience that the state is pretty tough on these type of offenses.

The crime is a second degree felony which is punishable by up to 15 years in Florida state prison.

What the person would actually get depends on a lot of other factors like prior arrests, what the victim wants, the severity of the injuries, etc.
