Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Ancient Misdemeanor and Nursing School
I am now living in the Pensacola area. I would like to apply for Nursing School (LPN) and I'm worried about a 20 year old shoplifting arrest haunting me to end of my days. I went to court and paid a $100 fine for the offense. I believe that this record possibly has been expunged or sealed since it has not shown up on any background checks I've paid for. I went to the courthouse to look up the offense and the clerk said that there was no record of it. I've worked in several businesses where I signed an authorization to allow them to run a background check and so far nothing has come up about it. How do I find out if there's a record of this arrest and the fine I paid? I don't know if I have an infraction, a misdemeanor, or no record at all! I may just have an arrest record with no conviction. The details are blurry since I was divorcing and suffering from an accute illness at the time. I'd like to know what my background check contains. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you.
