Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
armed burglary
my 18 y/o son is being ''represented'' by a public defender, who refuses to talk to us(mom and dad), even with ''Chris'' permission. He doesnt understand his rights, she doesnt communicate with him. Can he insist she include us? She told him to accept the first offer of 15 yrs for armed burglary. Can he be eligible for a youth offenders program that would lessen his sentence? How do I find him a probono attorney or at least an affordable one?

Re: armed burglary
In the strictest sense, the public defender is acting correctly in not sharing issues regarding your son's defense with you. If the pd shares information, even at your son's request, the attorney/client privilege is broken and their is a risk that your son's conversations with his attorney may not be confidential. Sharing information with parents is always a difficult situation when the child is not a minor.
Re: armed burglary
Your son's age is definately something that could help him in this situation. If you would like to discuss represention feel free to cal my office. I do accept payment plans and do consider your ability to pay when pricing the representation. All My Best, Joe Vredevelt 305.670.3119.
