Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
bench warrants
A friend of mine was arrested this afternoon and has not been booked yet. The cop said he had a bench warrant and I heard that on the background but have no idea what that means. What is a bench warrant? and what kind of things would cause one to get a bench warrant.

A bench warrant is a warrant issued by the judge from "the bench" to have someone arrested for failing to appear for a scheduled court hearing or trial. It is a very serious matter and will often cause the person to have any previous bail forfeited or right to post bail increased or even revoked.
