Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

charge with grand theft (felony 3rd. degree)

Hello,

I'm in desperated need of help,I was arested for grand theft. I took a camera from a passenger bag and a week later I sold that camera to a pawn shop. They went to my job and asked me questions about it, and I confessed that I stole the camera. I was arrested and charged with grand theft, they say the camera cost approx. 300.00, but prior to that I was charged for pettit theft which I'm doing the divertion program which was the deal with the attornery and DA office. I have not started the program yet. Even though it does not seem like it I am trluy and honestly sorry for what I have done. My ? is what is going to happen now since I have two prior cases of theft. Please tell me if I will be going to jail or if there is anything I can do to mend my wrong doing. I have a family and I can not leave them on thier own. I know I should have thought of this before but I was stupid and did not stop to think of the consequences at the time. I was only thinking of having money for the week. Again I was very stupid. Please advise me of what I can do.....Thank you for your time.

Re: charge with grand theft (felony 3rd. degree)

First, NO lawyer has a crystal ball that I know of, and I certainly do not have one...SO to predict any legal outcome in a court of law is impossible. BUT... I can perhaps give you an idea of what COULD occur. Since you have prior thefts the diversion program will probably drop you, and since this is a felony at best you will face some type of probation, fine, and perhaps restitution. Jail would be unlikely, but that would all depend on your prior record, whether you are currently on probation, what judge you get, and the quality of lawyer you hire. GOOD LUCK...
