Your lawyer needs to review the evidence in the case before he or she can make any assessment as to your case. If this is your first court appearance then it is likely your arraignment, that is, when the judge has you enter a plea (guilty, not guilty, or no contest), inquire as to your lawyer, and set additional court dates. If you already have a lawyer then he can file a plea of not guilty on your behalf and waive your appearance.
