I was charged as a juvenille for grandtheft. I stole a camera out of a purse from a woman, and i wanted to know why is it a third degree felony and not a misdemeanor?and then its my first ever offense for doing anything.how much trouble can i get in?

I would need more facts to know why it is a felony, but I suspect that they would call this strong arm robbery, in other words, purse snatching. Since you are being charged as a juvenile you are still facing severe sanctions which may include a detention, but it could be worse if you were charged as an adult meaning you would face 5 years in prison. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It doesn't matter that it is your first offense. The camera is just over 200 dollars putting it into the felony range.
