I was charged with shoplifting $28 worth of items at a grocery store. It was accidentally picked up with a prescription bag which was on top of 2 small items and placed in purse.have a court date. How serious is this

Any kind of theft charge, including a misdemeanor, will affect you for the rest of your life. So yes it is serious and I would advise speaking to an attorney in your area before your court date.
