If it is your first criminal charge, you may not need a lawyer--maybe. They prosecutor will probably offer you a standard plea they give to everyone, but some prosecutors (assistant state attorneys) are tougher than others. If you are offered a "withold of adjudication" if you complete communtity service, pay fines, etc. Then I would take it. This in a way is the worst misdemeanor over the long term. No one will hire you ever. So if you are offered adjudication witheld take it. If not, hire a attorney. See about getting record sealed later.
