Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

In Clay County, FL, is it illegal to steal a county road sign which reads, "Slow Children Ahead," from a public road and place it on a non-county maintained ("private") road? The person that allegedly did this had an ugly sign he made with about five old worn tires on the side of the road in front of his house. The county told him to remove his "sign" so he just went out, stole a sign and placed it near the place where he installed his tire private sign.

"Is it illegal to steal?" Hmm, what do you think? Yes, it is illegal to steal a county road sign. Stealing anything is illegal. There may even be enhanced penalties for stealing county property or that which is designed to promote safety.

The county telling this person to remove his own sign does not somehow legalize theft of county property.
