Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
Cocaine Possession
I am 17 years old. I had an anxiety attack while on cocaine and had to go to the E.R. The cops searched my room and found about a half gram of cocaine. I have no record whatsoever and am very worried about what is going to happen. This just happened 4 days ago and I have not been contacted by anyone yet but I heard from friends and family that I will be charged with a felony and it may take a couple of weeks to ''process'' and put out a warrant for my arrest. I want to know if this is true and if not then what could happen in the best and worst case. Thank you so much.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
You should not wait for an arrest warrant to be issued. You should speak with your parents and ask them to retain an attorney for you now so that you can facilitate an orderly handling of this matter with the least affect on you and your life. Possession of cocaine is not to be taken lightly. Having an attorney coordinate your arrest and hopefully your subsequent bail may make it possible for you to spend the least amount of time in jail as possible - perhaps only a few hours. Without an attorney, you might spend as long as two days before you come before a judge and bail is arranged.
