Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

How to get continuance and change attorney.

If you are not pleased with your paid lawyer, can we seek other counsel after finding out that all we've been getting from 2/25 to 6/25/09 were continuances with little information and findings relayed to us from week to week or month to month? We got an offer of 27 months with time served after meeting with the lawyer the day before court date of 6/25/09, which we could have gotten the same offer with a public defender for far less $$. Now we have the final calendar call with motion to suppress on 8/13/09, and we would like to know how to go about getting another continuance from the judge so that we can have time to consult another lawyer so that he/she will have time to review the case. Can we speak with the judge on last calendar call to ask for another continuance? We don't feel that we were fairly represented. What can we do??? Thank you.

Re: How to get continuance and change attorney.

You are always free to fire your lawyer but the judge does not have to give you a continuance.
