Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

A couple of months ago a friend of mine was givin some tools by his wifes bossess daughter. I helped him move the tools from the ladies house (she helped load the truck). A week ago i received a call from a detective investigating a grand theft case. Apparently the tools belonged to the ladies ex and since then she has decided to get back with him. She is telling the police that she was not there when the tools were removed. I told the detective everything that i know about that day. The detective told me that i wasnt being looked at in this case, but my feelings are that because I was with him I could be charged. I know that there was no theft involved and this is a matter of the lady giving her ex boyfriends stuff away and not wanting to admit it. I spoke with an attorney and he told me that the police would first have to prove that it was theft. They have recovered all of the items. I dont really have money to pay out for an attorney, but i feel like i should have one just in case something comes out of this. Any thoughts on this or advice would be appreciated.

Hire an attorney before you are interviewed by the police. You need to protect your rights and don't let the police tell you that only the guilty get lawyers.
