Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
I have never been to court before and I have a court summons for Tuesday, I have 4 charges and I am going to plea not guilty for all of them, I just need for somebody to explain to me the process for this kind of thing because I really have no clue . Will I get a chance to consult with a public defender before the trial? Is there a chance I could be in jail wendsday ?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Every court has a different practice but there are some common things that will happen. If you plea not guilty and you can not afford an attorney, then the court will appoint a public defender. It's impossible to say what will happen since it depends on the charge, the location, the judge, the prosecutor, etc. If possible try to hire an attorney by your court date and they can handle a lot of matters for you so that you don't have to worry. Either way, talk to an attorney so you can be fully informed about what to do.
