self defense and property damage

guy said something to my wife, heleft to go home. i walked outside to see why he said that. he was already in his truck, so i yelled at hm. he opened the door got out of his truck jumped in my face. i didn't know if he was going to hit me so i pushed him into his truck. broke the mirror and now i owe him money for the mirror. i owe him 125.00 for the mirror. he put the mirror on himself. now he wants 50.00 for labor.... can he charge me labor just because he decided to put it on himself??? what is the new self defense law? is there anything i can do??

Is he suing you or are you being charged criminally? You have no duty to retreat and your actions, if found to be true, would be a complete defense to the charges. Also, even if convicted, you would not be liable for the $50 "labor."

If it is civil he would have a hard time prevailing, because it was his initial actions that caused the damages.
