Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Is the definition of sexual assault an oxymoron?

I have a two part question that I have just been confused about. I have just looked up the difference between assault and battery, and if I understood it correctly; assault is the threat and battery is the action....which brings me to the question: Doesn't this make sexual assault an oxymoron if assault is just the threat and not the action? Just a little confused. Thanks

In Florida those are the correct definitions. But you will notice rape is called sexual battery not sex assault. I dont think Florida has a crime called sex assault for the very reason you point out. If there is one, no touching takes place.
