Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida
deposit to retailer
I gave a retailer a check to order furniture. He never placed order. Gave me a worthless check for a refund. Beyond the bad check, is there a crime for taking money and not ordering product.

Re: deposit to retailer
Probably not beyond the bad check charge, which is called "worthless check." It may be fraud and theft, but it's far less likely he'll be charged with those crimes. Call the State Attorney's Office and ask for their "worthless check package." The package will contain an affidavit and some information on how to file charges against him.
Also, there are very severe civil court penalties (triple damages and more) for bad checks, if you choose to sue him.
