Without giving you a law school course on the subject, double jeopardy simply means that the government can not try you at trial more than once. If you are acquitted, the state or the feds (or in some cases both), then they can not bring you to trial again. As to your second question, the Constitution requires that all persons accused of a crime, must be allowed to face their accusers. This is known as the Confrontation clause.
