drug addiction

Can durg addiction ever be used as a criminal defence in an armed robbery? In the FL statues every time it mentions drug addiction, it's brought up with mental illness, all doctors now say it's a diesease - when will our legal system begin to realize a greater portion of crime is drug related, bottom line-drug addicts. We need to start treating them instead of incarcerating them with no treatment at all.

Volunatry intoxication(ie. taking a drug or alcohol voluntarily, not slipped in a drink) is not a legal defense for a trial. It used to be a mitigator for sentencing after trial but it was eliminated.
