Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

expungement of prior misdemeanor drug charge

My son completed a pre-trial diversion program in Florida & had a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge dismissed. He is now in the process of applying to law schools. Will this affect his chances of getting into a top law school or any law school? Does he have to admit to the prior charge on the law school apps? Should he get it expunged or does that not matter anymore with the way background searches can now be done on the internet? Do we need a lawyer to handle the expungement if that is the way we are advised to go & if so approximately how much should it cost? Does sealing a record mean it's REALLY sealed & if so do you still have to be honest on law school apps? Thank you in advance to whoever answers these questions. My son attends an ivy league school & the thought of this one blemish on his record potentially ruining his bright future really breaks my heart. He is so stressed about this & we anxiously await a response.
