Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

False domestic violence?

my friend was accused of aggravated domestic violence. After research I found that domestic violence would only refer to spouses or people with children. My friend was never married to this individual nor did they ever live together they basically had a small few month fling. Can he legally be charged for the domestic violence. Thank you for your help.
