Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

false police report

hi, i made a mistake i gave my car to someone that knew someone that shipped cars away so i claim it as a stolen vehicle. i couldnt afford the payments anymore. i went to the police department because a seargent called and he told me that based on the gps of the car the know that its was a false police report and it didnt match up. he told me he wasnt going to arrest me or charge me with felony or insurance fraud if i cooperated with him. i got really scared since i never been in this position before and i told him the truth. i told him who i gave the car to and since i cooperated he was just going to just give me a ticket for filing a false police report. he also told me that when i go to court he was going to have it dismissed. im really really scared. can they turn around and charge me even though he said he wasnt going to. whats going to happen? what can they do to me? i already called the insurance and withdrew the claim. can they do something to me? also, i cant get the car back its probably in pieces. i cant pay for the payments and i dont have a car. besides ruining my credit what can the bank do to me? i would really appreciate your help. i called an attorney and he really scared me.

Re: false police report

You could be looking at some pretty serious charges depending on how the State attorneys office decides to charge you.

the police can and often do lie to people in hopes of getting them to provide information that will help the officer build a case against you.

I would immediately stop taking to the police and the insurance company you will only get yourself in more trouble.

it would be a good idea to try and secure an attorney before this thing gets any worse; if you cannot afford one I would try to get in touch with the public offenders office.

I would be willing to help but we would have to come up with a reasonable down payment and payment plan.

feel free to give me a ring if you would like to chat further.

The only person you can trust in these situations is your attorney, not the police. A police officer's promise during an interrogation is worthless. I handle cases in Miami.
