Unfortunately, the simple answer is that a plea of �nolo contendere� or �no contest� can be used as a prior conviction under the federal sentencing guidelines. There are some limitations on the use of prior conviction but they relate to the age of the conviction and other factors like whether the person had counsel at the time of the plea.
